Who This Is For

We’re a good fit for contractors who understand insurance is part of their operation — not just a line item.

  • HVAC contractors
  • Electricians and electrical contractors
  • General contractors and trade specialists
  • Warehouses and light distribution operations
  • Service businesses with vehicles, employees, or subcontractors

If you’re only looking for the cheapest number without reviewing coverage, we may not be the right fit — and that’s okay.

Why Contractor Insurance Policies Go Wrong

Most contractor insurance problems don’t show up on day one — they show up at audit time, claim time, or when a certificate is rejected.

  • Workers’ comp class codes that don’t match actual operations
  • Subcontractor exposure handled incorrectly
  • Payroll, sales, or receipts underestimated at binding
  • Commercial auto misrated or underwritten incorrectly
  • Coverage written by agents unfamiliar with the industry
Translation: these issues quietly push premiums higher and create stress later.

What We Review

Our focus isn’t just quoting — it’s making sure your insurance actually works when it’s tested.

  • General Liability (operations, subs, additional insureds)
  • Workers’ Compensation (class codes, payroll, audit exposure)
  • Commercial Auto (vehicles, radius, driver use)
  • Umbrella / Excess Liability
  • Tools, equipment, and installation coverage where applicable

Why Contractors Reach Out

  • Renewal premiums increased with no clear explanation
  • Concern about upcoming audits
  • New vehicles, employees, or subcontractors added
  • Coverage requirements from GCs or property managers
  • Uncertainty about whether current coverage is adequate

Our role is to explain what you have, what it covers, and what needs attention — without pressure to switch.

Quick Contractor FAQ

Do I need to list subcontractors on my policy?
Often, yes — at least from an underwriting and audit standpoint. Many carriers want to know how much work is subcontracted and whether you collect:
  • Certificates of Insurance (COIs)
  • Additional Insured status when required
  • Signed contracts/sub agreements
Sub exposure handled incorrectly is one of the biggest reasons audits spike.
Why does my workers’ comp audit keep going up?
The usual causes are payroll not separated by class code, job duties that don’t match the assigned class code, or subs/1099 labor being treated as uninsured labor. A small cleanup in how payroll and roles are documented can make a big difference.
What causes a certificate (COI) to get rejected?
Most rejections come from missing Additional Insured wording, waiver of subrogation, primary & noncontributory language, incorrect descriptions, or policy limits that don’t match the contract. We can help set up a clean COI process so jobs don’t get delayed.
Do I need an umbrella?
If you’re working for GCs, doing higher-limit projects, or have significant auto exposure, an umbrella is often the cheapest way to increase protection. We’ll confirm underlying limits and contract requirements before recommending it.
Is “tools and equipment” automatically covered?
Not always. Some policies include limited coverage; others require an inland marine/tools endorsement. Coverage also depends on where tools are kept (jobsite vs vehicle vs shop) and theft protections.
